The pandemic has had a disproportionate impact on women. In the US alone, over 2.2 million women have left the workforce. Violence against women and girls, particularly domestic violence, has intensified across the world as a result. Although both women and men in healthcare have been exposed to the virus, women have been potentially more at risk of infection because they make up the majority (76 %) of healthcare workers in the EU alone.
